Halton Region and City permits
Burlington runs its own site alteration permit process and a private tree bylaw with real teeth. Excavating inside a protected tree's root zone, or removing one, needs to be addressed before a shovel moves.
Local
Burlington is a short run from our Hamilton base and a different job in almost every respect. The permit path runs through the City of Burlington and Halton Region rather than Hamilton, with its own site alteration and tree protection requirements — a difference that catches out-of-town contractors regularly.
The lots are different too. Aldershot and Roseland are mature properties with established trees, which means root-zone constraints on excavation and real care about where a machine tracks. South of the QEW the water table sits high enough that drainage planning isn't optional.
What's different here
Conservation Halton
Properties near creeks, the escarpment and the shoreline fall under Conservation Halton rather than Hamilton's authority. Permit requirements are similar in principle and completely separate in process.
Lakeshore drainage
South Burlington's high water table changes how we approach waterproofing and how we grade hard surfaces. Weeping tile and discharge routing get designed, not assumed.
Mature tree roots
On established Aldershot and Roseland lots we hand-dig and adjust base depth near root zones rather than trenching through them. It's slower and it's why those trees are still standing.
